Shooting Reported at Empire Mall; One Injured, One Person in Custody as Mall Placed on Lockdown

A large police response descended on the Empire Mall on Tuesday evening after reports of gunfire prompted an immediate lockdown of the shopping center.

According to initial reports, just before 7:15 p.m., multiple law enforcement units were dispatched to the Empire Mall following reports of shots fired in front of the food court. Witnesses told authorities that a male suspect was armed with a handgun and that at least one shot was fired during the incident.

Emergency responders arrived within minutes and secured the area while officers searched for the suspect. Authorities have confirmed that one person sustained injuries during the shooting. The victim’s condition has not yet been released.

Police also confirmed that one person is in custody in connection with the incident. Investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting and whether the suspect and victim knew each other.

As officers continued clearing the building, the Empire Mall was placed on lockdown.
